Season for Nonviolence: Day 57

Day 57: March 27

The thought for today is SERVICE.

“One act of beneficence, one act of real usefulness, is worth all the abstract sentiment in the world.” – Alex Noble

What Alex is saying is that actions speak louder than words. A few days ago, we looked at giving and at how we could give of ourselves in our time, talent, and treasure. We’ve also looked at the manifestation process and how action is a necessary component of that process, along with thoughts and emotion. When your thoughts are centered in giving of yourself to another or to a cause and your emotions are deeply rooted in Love and compassion, your actions, to be in alignment, will take the form of service. Then, you’ll make amazing things happen.

“For I have not come to be served, but to serve.” – Jesus

It seems to us that Jesus, the Master Teacher, went to extraordinary lengths to reveal the Sacred Presence. Everything he did was in service to others. He invites us, even now, to follow him. Service is a path to the Divine. It has a way of moving us out of ego-centered living as ego is all about ‘self’ and serving itself. Serving others opens the gate wider for God to move in us and through us.

“A man s truly ethical only when he obeys the compulsion to help all life which he is able to assist, and shrinks from injuring anything that lives.” – Albert Schweitzer

Being of service involves nonviolent action. It is difficult – no, impossible, I would say – to cause injury on purpose to one you are serving if your heart is true and you are acting from compassion. So service plays a part in revealing Peace to the world.

“Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.” – Albert Einstein

Love is the only reality. It is the nature of Love to give of Itself in service. As we are Children of Love, it is our natural state, too. So many people are running around trying to ‘find’ themselves and attempting to fill non-existent holes in their lives because they feel their lives have no value. For those individuals, I have a solution: it is in giving that we find meaning for our lives. If you want your life to have value, then give something of value – your Love, your time, a helping hand, a kind word, your talents and gifts. Through service, you will find a ‘You’ that you perhaps never knew was there.

Reveal Peace in yourself, in your family and in your community today by reaching out in service. Help a neighbor. Volunteer. Mentor a teen. There are so many ways in which you can share what you’ve been given. Look around you at the needs just waiting to be met and look inside yourself to see what you can do to help.

breathe Peace ~

About Rev. Rebecca

After 30 years of trying to avoid God, I finally gave up playing Jonah and answered Love's call to service by becoming an ordained New Thought minister. Since that day in 2007, I've counseled a lot of people, performed some weddings, been a publiic speaker, and done some non-profit board work. Opportunities for service are presenting themselves in new ways for the coming year and I look forward to more of Love unfolding in my life.
