Earth Day: April 22

  • The Story of Stuff
The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute film that addresses the real costs of consumerism.

Environmental activist Annie Leonard, who also narrates the film, created it after pondering the question,"Where does all the stuff we buy come from and where does it go when we throw it out?" She spent ten years traveling the world to find the answers to her question.

Leonard looks at the extraction of resources, production, distribution, consumption, and disposal and the effects they have on the planet and its inhabitants. She also looks at 'planned and perceived obsolescence' and how those concepts are driving our consumerist culture.

The writer for the film was Annie Leonard. It was produced by Free-Range Studios with funding from The Funders Workgroup for Sustainable Production and Consumption and Tides Foundation.
